Today I choose to be as happy as a seagull with a stolen biscuit.
Melanie Phillips, Cognitive Hypnotherapist & Coach
Specialising in panic attacks, depression and anxiety
I am a solution focussed, practical therapist who enjoys helping my clients find ways to break the unhelpful patterns of behaviour that they find themselves in. Drawing on my own personal experiences and after years of training and research, I specialise in working with people who are dealing with panic attacks, depression and anxiety. These conditions can manifest as phobias, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), lack of self-confidence and being unable to deal with unwanted and intrusive thoughts.
Having trained at the Quest Institute as a Cognitive Hypnotherapist, I have also qualified in various techniques which include Emotional Freedom Technique, Eye Movement Integration Plus, Reiki and Life Coaching. No two clients are the same being able to draw on a number of therapies means I am able to truly help my clients to overcome or to manage their situation.
My previous career was very much based in the corporate world having worked for a trade association and a building company. However it was my work as a Contracts Manager in the NHS where I personally experienced working very long hours and dealing with the overwhelming pressure and stress. This was when I discovered an enthusiasm and interest in a number of therapies.
As a key member of the Change Management team that implemented the nGMS Contract for GP’s, the Dental Contract and the Pharmacy Contract it was necessary for me to manage a number of training days for GP’s, Dentists and Pharmacist to aid them with the stress of the planned changes. As well as my NHS training, I drew on my therapy training to help and support those affected.
I moved from London to Scotland in 2011 after I took the decision to leave the NHS and become a full time therapist and started Lothian Therapy.
Supporting Other Therapists
I am very passionate about supporting other therapists and I am a supervisor to other therapists. I feel this is an important aspect of my practice and so I ensure that I keep up to date on all the latest information regarding the field of therapy. I believe very strongly that all therapists should be accountable and receive the best possible training before being able to treat members of the public.
I belong to a number of professional bodies including the Quest Cognitive Hypnotherapy Professional Association (QCHPA), National Council of Hypnotherapy (NCH), The Association for the Advancement of Meridian Energy Therapies (AAMET), UK Confederation of Hypnotherapy Associations (UKCHO).
Through my professional and personal experiences my mission statement is always ‘nothing has to be the way it’s always been’.
